Professional Portraits - A child's perspective

March 01, 20242 min read

As a child, I never quite understood why my parents always wanted to capture so many photos. It felt like every milestone was celebrated—my first sleepy newborn days, the toothless smiles that lit up my face, my wobbly first steps and the sparkle in my eyes on my 1st birthday.

Framed on the walls or sitting proudly on shelves, these portraits surrounded me every day, a quiet presence in the background of a busy life.

But as I grew older, I began to see these in a new way. They weren’t just moments in time—they were a reminder of how deeply I was loved. Each photo symbolised a feeling: I belonged.

The portrait of me as a newborn, swaddled and cradled in my parents’ arms, showed me that from the very beginning. My parents might have looked tired, but in their eyes, I could see the love they had for me. They were doing their best, learning as they went, and even when they might have doubted themselves, they never wavered in their love for me.

The family photo, where I’m laughing at my dad’s silly face, reminded me that love isn’t perfect. It’s messy, it’s real, and it’s filled with laughter and imperfections. Those moments—where we’re just ourselves—are the ones that matter the most.

Now, when I look back at these portraits, I see the journey my family and I have been on together. The milestones captured aren’t just of my childhood, but of our shared love.

They’re a testament to my parents’ love, a love that surrounded me even when I didn’t realise it. They remind me that no matter where life takes me, I will always have a home filled with warmth, acceptance, and unconditional love.

I am forever grateful for these moments that were captured, because they showed me—without saying a word—that I am loved, and I always will be.
